Super Mario Gameplay

The main character in Super Mario Bros is the plumber Mario. The mission of the game is to travel through the Mushroom Kingdom, eluding or destroying the soldiers of the Turtle King Koopa (also known as Bowser) in order to rescue the Princess he has captured.

Mario attacks opponents by jumping on them from above (this method kills Goomba mushrooms and temporarily neutralizes Koopa turtles, forcing them to hide in their shells) or hitting the platform on which the enemy is located from below. "Frightened" turtles can be used as a weapon against other enemies, pushing the shell in front of them: after accelerating, they sweep away everyone in their path, but when they encounter an obstacle, they change direction and can hit Mario himself. Some enemies, such as Spini's porcupines, cannot be jumped on, as this will injure Mario. They can be killed by firing a fireball, kicking a turtle at them, or hitting the platform from below. The same goes for carnivorous plants that regularly emerge from pipes sticking out in the ground. Some of these pipes (one per level) are passageways to the bonus level, a dungeon in which you can find some amount of coins, and at the same time shorten the path to the exit from the level. There are also sprouts along which Mario rises to the clouds, a bonus level at which there is a large number of coins and there are no opponents.
